About Me

hi, I'm
Megan.

I'm a certified early childhood educator with a deep love for helping kids learn, grow, and feel safe. I started working with children when I was 16 and haven't stopped since — from stage-managing children's theater productions to leading classrooms at Wittenberg Lutheran Preschool.

I know how to relate to kids on their level — whether that means getting on the floor to build block towers or leading a group activity. I adapt to what each child needs in the moment while still maintaining structure, providing comfort, and creating a space where children feel genuinely cared for.

I hold a Certificate of Early Education Teaching and am CPR & First Aid certified. Whether it's one child or a small group, I bring the same energy, patience, and genuine love to every family I work with.

I believe a great caregiver is an extension of your love — offering support, guidance, and a whole lot of fun while maintaining the structure and values your family holds dear.

Children thrive when they feel safe, seen, and celebrated. My approach combines structured learning with creative play, adapting to each child's unique personality and developmental stage.

Whether it's building blanket forts, reading stories, or working through big feelings together — I bring patience, energy, and genuine joy to every moment. Your child won't just be cared for. They'll be understood.

My Approach

real situations,
real answers.

Parents deserve to know exactly how their caregiver handles the moments that matter. Here's how I approach common childcare scenarios.

Tantrums happen for many reasons, and my first step is always understanding the why. If a child is simply testing boundaries, I calmly hold the line — "no is my final answer" — and offer a choice: calm down and we can move on to something fun, or take a moment in a quiet spot to let the feelings out. But sometimes it runs deeper — a change at home, a new sibling, an overwhelming day. In those moments I stay firm on boundaries but lead with comfort. I acknowledge the emotion, sit with them, and create a safe space to talk it through. I've seen kids completely transform once they feel heard. Consistency and compassion go hand in hand.

I'm a big believer in freedom within boundaries. I include children in meal planning with simple choices — "Do you want a sandwich or soup?" "Apples or bananas?" Giving kids ownership over their choices within healthy options removes the power struggle and helps them develop decision-making skills. I never force a child to eat, but I also don't become a short-order cook. Meals are balanced, age-appropriate, and often fun — cookie-cutter shaped sandwiches go a long way with toddlers.

I always come prepared with an arsenal of age-appropriate activities. On rainy days we might do crafts, build couch-cushion forts, have an indoor picnic, or do a movie afternoon complete with homemade popcorn trail mix. If the rain lets up, I'm absolutely an advocate for puddle jumping — we'll go for a short walk, splash around, and clean up when we get back. I believe boredom is actually a gift sometimes too — it teaches kids to use their imagination. But I always have a plan B, C, and D ready.

Consistency is everything. I establish a set rest time and stick to it. If a child keeps getting up, I calmly walk them back — first time with a reminder that it's rest time, second time with a gentle "you don't have to sleep, but you do need to stay in bed." That line alone removes the power struggle surprisingly well. Most kids settle within a few days once they learn the routine is non-negotiable. I always wake them at the designated time whether they slept or not — it helps their body lock into a healthy rhythm.

I get it — after a full day at school, the last thing a kid wants is more work. A predictable daily schedule helps (homework after snack, play after homework). I also break tasks into smaller pieces so it doesn't feel overwhelming, offer short activity breaks when frustration builds, and sometimes save a portion for parents to do together — kids love showing mom or dad their progress. A little encouragement goes a long way: "Let's finish reading together and then you can show your parents how great you're doing."

Safety is always my top priority. For minor scrapes and bumps, I clean, bandage, comfort, and document. For anything more serious, I assess the situation, apply first aid (I'm certified), contact parents immediately, and if needed, head to urgent care or the ER. I always communicate injuries to parents — no matter how small. I keep a communication log so nothing gets missed and parents always know exactly what happened during the day.

Megan is one of the only people I fully trust with my children. She really understands how to handle different personalities and needs. As a caregiver she is fun, engaging, and responsible. She always comes prepared with activities and crafts ready for multiple age groups. My kids get so excited when they hear Megan is coming — and when I ask them why, they say it's because she's nice to them and actually plays with them. Her hands-on approach is what sets her apart from every other sitter we've had.

We feel incredibly fortunate to have found Megan. She is bright, reliable, and affectionate — our kids just adore her. She always comes prepared with age-appropriate activities: crafts, games, books. She even checks for food allergies before doing any cooking or baking activities with the kids. We are able to relax and enjoy ourselves knowing that our children are safe, happy, and genuinely having a great time. Megan is truly a blessing to our family.
